In-depth General Guide to the New BattleGrounds System

Recommended Posts

• Foreword

With the release of the new update, out came the rebirth of the mini-WoE game, BattleGrounds. It also came with a nice addition of many modes to satisfy the needs of all fellow Dreamers. In my opinion, the new BG system was clever since the system brings out all the potential of all job classes, be the character geared or not, and so, makes this game noob friendlier. So let's have an insight on what are the BG modes implemented.

• Maps used on BattleGrounds

Before I begin, mind you that the following maps are the ones mostly used in the some BG modes. Conquest uses the 2.0 WoE maps, while the Rush uses the Aldebaran and Payon WoE maps.

• About the use of Emergency Call

Also, you may want to take notice of the guild skill Emergency Call because the BG system puts you on guilds of the Red, Blue or Green Team. The one with the title [*color* Team Leader] is the only one allowed to use this skill. Use the skill wisely and tactically to bring your team to victory.

• BG Modes:

Bossnia :

Map: Tierra Valley

Spawn Points: Battleship of Croix or Guillaume

Emergency Call allowed? Yes

How does this BG work: The battle begins with you spawning on the battleship on both ends of the map. The goal here is to defeat all the Boss (yes, MVP bosses) guardians of the opposing team. Sounds simple? Nope, that's not it. All the guardians will receive 1 damage from all attacks given that the Neutral flag isn't captured. So how do you capture it? Destroy the Neutral flag with 1-hit attacks (like Asura Strike or Sacrifice) OR melee it. Once the flag is captured, you may now easily dispose of the Boss guardians of the opposing team. However, once you defeat a guardian, the flag goes back to neutrality so you'll have to capture it again. First team to defeat all the guardians win.

Tips: Once you get past the Satan Morroc guardian, you won't need to capture the flag anymore, since the 2 Guardian Crystals that come after will always receive 1 damage from all sources. Team up with your team to take down the Crystal easily. Preferred attackers for the Crystal are Professors with Double Casting at 100% delay, Double Attack Sin-X, and Champions with Triple Attack.

Capture the Flag :

Map: Flavius

Spawn Point: On the small platform below the flag area

Emergency Call allowed? No

How does this BG work: The battle begins with the 2 teams having the Flags (Crystal) on their original position. The aim here is to capture the opposing flag AND secure your flag. This means that you won't be able to get a point if you have the enemy flag and the enemy has your flag. So just capture the flag? Not that easy. If you're the flagbearer, your HP will be reduced by 5% per second and all access to regeneration items and skills are disabled, save for equipment changing. You can also tell who the flagbearer is if the player is showing the /help emoticon. If the flagbearer dies, he/she drops the flag. If the dropped flag is captured by the original owner, it's returned to the base. If it's captured by your teammate, he/she becomes the new flagbearer. To get a point, get the opposing flag to your flag. First team to get 3 points wins the game.

Tips: When capturing the flag, the flagbearer must be able to withstand shitloads of punishment, must be resistant to status ailments AND must've loads of HP. Also, traps are a big help here to prevent enemy flagbearers to get away easily.

Eye of the Storm :

Map: Tierra Valley

Spawn Point: Battleship or your Team's bases (depending on how many you captured)

Emergency Call allowed? To be confirmed...

How does this BG work: Eye of the Storm almost works like Capture the Flag, except, you will need to capture a base to be able to capture the Neutral flag. To capture the Neutral flag, you must deal the finishing blow to the Neutral flag so having 1-hit skills on your team will help. And like the Capture the Flag, if you're the flagbearer, your HP will be reduced by 5% per second and all access to regeneration items and skills are disabled, save for equipment changing. If the flagbearer dies, he/she drops the flag. Anyone who picks up the dropped flag will be the new flagbearer and they must bring it to their team's base. Capturing a flag will net you 5 (?) points for your team. How to capture a base? Make sure to stand near the flag of the bases and prevent the opposing team from attempting to capture it. Capturing a base will net you 1 points per interval and will give more the longer you hold the base. 1st Team to make it to 70 points win.

Tips: You can capture the 2 bases in this game. This gives a higher chance of winning since you get more points per interval AND the opposing team won't have any place to bring the neutral flag. And also, traps are a big help here.

Stone Control :

Map: Flavius

Spawn Point: On the Crystal area

Emergency Call allowed? No

How does this BG work: The game starts with 6 neutral stones that you need to capture. If you're holding the stone, your HP will be reduced by 5% per second and all access to regeneration items and skills are disabled, save for equipment changing. If the stone holder dies, he/she drops the stone. Anyone who picks up the dropped stone will be the new stone holder and they must bring it to their team's base. You must bring it to the stone points (the one that looks like Gajomarts). Capturing a stone will net you a 1 point per interval AND will give more points the longer you hold a stone. If your enemy has captured some stones, you can recapture it and bring it to your base, giving you more points. Be wary though, the enemy can also capture your stones and bring it to their base so having a good defensive team helps.

Tips: Have a High Wizard to spam AoE skills to delay the opposing teams movement. This helps when the enemy captures a stone. And also, laying out traps on the stone points help a lot.

Domination:

Map: Tierra Valley

Spawn Point: Battleships of Croix or Guillaume

Emergency Call allowed? No

How does this BG work: There are 3 bases on this game. The goal of this mode is to capture bases and score all the way to 99 points. So how do you capture a base? Simply stand near the flag of the base you plan to capture and hold out for long. If you manage to defend the base for a long time, you will get hold of the base. The enemy team, however, can also capture the base you hold and defend it. Each base will give 1 point per interval and will give more points the longer you defend it.

Tips: This BG mode will require complete teamwork on your team. Assign a group of defenders to go to 1 base to another and attempt to capture one. More bases gives more points so it's a good idea to try and capture all. Make sure to bring PVP-geared characters here because this mode will take one long fighting.

Team Deathmatch :

Map: Flavius

Spawn Point: On the Crystal area

Emergency Call allowed? Yes

How does this BG work: Your and the opposing team starts with 30 points on each side. The goal here is to kill as much enemy players to reduce the points to zero. Having gears for WoE or PVP will help a lot here. Each kill will reduce the point of your enemy by 1 point. First team to have 0 points loses the game.

Tips: Once again, complete cooperation is required here. You will have to assist your team members in killing a player to help kill faster. Also, take note of the spawn points of the opposing team to make it easier to gang someone. Lastly, it is important that your team leader use Emergency Call on their respawn point to make it easier to access past the enemy teams waiting. Be sure to be geared for PVP here.

Triple Inferno :

Map: Guild PVP map (Same as the one in 500 PVP)

Spawn Point: West, North, and East ends of the map

Emergency Call allowed? Yes

How does this BG work: This system works like Team Deathmatch except that, when you kill someone, they drop skulls. Picking up a skull and putting it in your Skull Totem (which is located near where you'll spawn at the beginning) will net you 1 point for your team. However, if you get killed if you're carrying skulls, you will also drop the skulls that you have looted. First team to collect 80 skulls (worht 80 points) wins the game.

Tips: Be geared for PVP for this one because this is all about killing. Proper use of Emergency Call here will allow you to spawn site farming, netting kills faster. Also, the use of Cloaking and Tunnel Drive here is recommended to prevent people from targetting you when carrying skulls.

Rush :

Map: Payon or Aldebaran WoE map

Spawn Point: The entrance to the castle

Emergency Call allowed? Yes

How does this BG work: So basically, this BG works like when 2 guilds attempt to conquer a free castle in WoE. The aim here is to break the Emperium first and defend it for 10 minutes. If you don't happen to get the castle, your team will be kicked out of the castle and back to the starting point, but don't worry though, this is where it gets exciting. If you don't get the castle, all you have to do is break the Emperium to win the game. If you're the defender and you defended the Emperium for 10 minutes, your team wins the game. However, if the opposing team breaks it while you're defending, you lose the game.

Tips: Be geared for WoE for this BG since you will need to defend all you can OR break fast if you want this game to finish early. Your team leader must make sure to use Emergency Call in the Emperium room to make it easier to defend. Utilize every skill your job class has.

Conquest :

Map: WoE 2.0 Map

Spawn Point: Defending team spawns on the Emperium area. The opposing team spawns on the entrance of the map.

Emergency Call allowed? Yes

How does this BG work: So basically, this is WoE 2.0 on BG. Either your team or the enemy team will be the one defending the Emperium. If you're on the defending team, then all you have to do is defend for 10 minutes. If you're the opposing team, you'll have to break the Emperium but it's not gonna be easy. Your team will have to destroy the 2 Guardian Stones defending the barricades to the Emperium room. Once this is done, you will have to destroy 3 rounds of barricades then finally, you can break the Emperium.

Tips: For the opposing team, divide your team into 2 to take out the Guardian Stones fast. Then afterwards, proceed to take out the barricades (dunno why the barricades have little HP.) Once this is done, have your leader use Emergency Call safely within the premises of the Emperium to ensure victory.

For the defending team, have the AoE spammers use their skills within the 3rd barricade so they will have a hard time breaking it. Traps are useful here because they will prevent the enemy team from advancing.

Be geared for WoE for this BG mode, and of course, teamwork is essential here.

• BattleGrounds for Newbies

I've been bothered by newbies who seem to join BG without fear of being owned by characters who are geared already. However, some of them don't seem to know how to properly utilize their job class in BG. So here it is, I'll be making some short statements about each class function on BG.

Lord Knight - I won't expect much from this class if they're newbies due to that you will be dealing not-that-much damage with your Bowling Bash. However, just know the right resistances and gears (no need to use donation items) and they can function as meat shields for team members that are squishy. You can run high VIT with a Grimtooth (saves your ass from Thanatos Card users since it halves your total DEF), and be the tanker/crystal carrier, since you naturally have faster walk speed than the rest. If you feel like hurting enemies, you can alternatively use Provoke + Bowling Bash since Provoke reduces your enemy's DEF by a whooping 55%. Just make sure you're not using this on a class that relies on ATK (for example, say, an Asura Strike Champion  ) *credits to RhenaLin for the added tips!*

High Wizard - Remember that you should use your AoE skills ONLY for delaying and not for killing since you lack after-cast delay reducing items and cards. You can, however, do some punishment with Jupitel Thunder and Heaven's Drive since they don't suffer from after-cast delay. You can also make use of Ganbantein (to disable Land Protector's and Traps), Sightrasher (destroys traps but requires Sight to be activated), Stone Curse (a VERY useful disable that requires Red Gemstone) and Frost Diver (high chance of freezing the target but only if the target CAN be frozen.)

Whitesmith - I rarely see this job class in BG. But what I know is that you can make use of this job class' Meltdown to destroy your enemy's equipment. That will cripple them temporarily until they die and respawn. Other than that, fill your cart with heavy stuff, load on ATK, and go Cart Termination on every enemy that you see.

Assassin Cross - Take advantage of your dual-wielding capabilities in games that require breaking like Rush, Conquest, Eye of the Storm, etc. Using Poison Dust is also a good help for you team to take out tank classes. And lastly, you can attempt to take the enemy flags and stones with your Cloaking skill (that is if they don't find you.)

High Priest - Being the main support of your team (you can't kill with Holy Light due to your newbie equips), your best help would be to cast Blessing, Increase Agi, Heal, Assumptio or Kyrie Elieson on your allies (but DON'T cast Angelus since Thanatos Card users will rape your teammates). On your enemies, you can make use of Lex Aeterna (2x damage on targeted enemy for 1 instance), Decrease Agi (decreases movement speed), Pneuma (protects against ALL ranged attacks), Ruwach (reveals Cloaked enemies), and Lex Divina (silences the target). *credits to RhenaLin for clarifying the Assumptio rule Q_Q*

Sniper - probably one of the best disabling job class in BG thanks to it's traps. Make use of it's Ankle Snare (disables movement), Sandman (induces sleep), and Freezing Trap (freezes target) and you'll be able to delay your enemies easily. If not, try using your range to your advantage and equiping your Bow with status-inflicting cards to delay the enemy even more.

Paladin - make use of your skill Devotion to protect important members of your team (especially Emergency Callers to prevent interruption.) and killers who are easily killed. If you feel like killing, you can buff up your HP, make use of damage increasing cards (percentage NOT base) and use Sacrifice (you won't do well against Ghostring Card users though.)

Professor - another useful job class in BG, thanks to it's Dispell (removes all buffs on the target) and Spider Web (acts almost like Ankle Snare), Stone Curse, Frost Diver, and Soul Burn. If you feel like going for the kill, you can only make use of Heaven's Drive to spam since you can't spam bolts that fast yet.

Creator - your best help for your team will be the use of Full Chemical Protection to prevent your team's equipment from becoming useless. Other than that, you can only help damaging your enemies by using Acid Demonstration (though, you won't damage that much due to the after-cast delay.)

Stalker - being an Archer and a Thief in one package is one hell of an irritating job class thanks to the range of your weapons PLUS your Hide skill (coupled with Tunnel Drive.) And your biggest asset is your Full Strip, which renders ANY job class easier to kill provided that the target is not immune to strip. Plus, you can get some useful AoE skills thanks to your Intimidate and Preserve, like Storm Gust.

Champion - undoubtedly the highest damage dealing class in the game due to this class' Asura Strike. You won't do that much support though so your best bet is practicing spamming Asura Strike to take out your enemies.

Gunslinger - I'm not sure if you should go for this class if you're a newbie since they won't do that much damage without Thanatos Card and some Death Garrisons. Please guide me on this :|

Star Gladiator - only a geared SG will do well in BG. Don't bring an SG to BG unless you're persistent

Soul Linker - your linking skills can help some job classes do better in BG. Stick to supporting for this job class if you aren't geared.

Ninja - if you're looking for a job class that doesn't require delay-reducing items to deal damage, this is your best bet. One drawback is that you're squishy since this is a 1st job class. But if you want to try killing, you can go HIGH VIT, get an Ice Pick and go Final Strike (just make sure to bring lots of healing items or else, you're dead after 1 FS.)

Novice - Go kill yourself please *facepalm*

• BattleGrounds Happy Hour!

You may also notice at certain times the BG Happy Hour... What the hell is this? Well, this is one of the times when it's best to join BattleGrounds. Why? BattleGrounds Happy Hour gives 20% more rewards from joining BattleGrounds. So to say that at a regular game that you receive 20 badges, at Happy Hour, you receive 24 badges! Plus, if you get to play BG a lot during Happy Hour, you may get in the BG Ranked list (shown by typing @bgranked) and get yourself a free Rank B Aura! Pretty nais eh?

So there goes my short (err, not really LOL) guide about the new BattleGrounds system of the server. I find this new system a pretty good way to earn Zeny, get used to the system of dRO AND maximize the capabilities of your job class. If you see any errors, mistakes, or would like to make a clarification, feel free to comment and post below. Happy BG-ing! B)

Zerro, do you have a guide for everything? haha! +1 oh master Zerro.

By the way, you should edit a bit of the LK and priest:

Newbie LK - you can run high vit with a grimtooth, and be the tanker/crystal carrier, since you naturally have faster walk speed than the rest. Plus, you can also use provoke + bowling bash to make things hurts, since you cannot place thana in a grimtooth.

Newbie Priest - You cannot cast assumptio during BG, since it is like mini-WOE, assumptio has been taken out due to the super damage reduction. And same things as WoE, you may heal/sanctuary the neutral flags and guardians, but with the guardians you may also buff them with targetted buffs (blessing / Agi Up / Kyrie / Aspersio / etc).

Free for all can be registered thru the BG recruiter himself, or when inside the room, just talk to that BG warper, i forgot the name.

It's fun, but really hard cuz same scenario as pvp, some of them gang up on you before killing each other.
